Shimmer Shifting
Commissioned for Nightfall Festival, Stellar Projects, Preston Park, 2019
Shimmer Shifting is a sensory film artwork by Howard Hannah, combining moving image, light, and sound to create a fluid, immersive experience. High-definition lunar imagery is layered with galactic liquids and shimmering eclipses, forming a continuously shifting visual field.
The work explores perception through colour, motion, and rhythm, using carefully placed fragments of light and sound to generate a dreamlike, atmospheric encounter.
Howard Hannah is an artist collective formed in 2018 by visual artist Hannah Campion and photographer Kev Howard. Emerging from a long-standing studio collaboration that began in 2009, their practice spans film, light, and installation, often developed for site-responsive and public contexts. Their work has been presented internationally, including commissions and screenings for Nightfall Festival, Middlesbrough Art Weekender, Southwark Park Galleries, and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts.
