Revontulet

Film, 2022 – Presented at Nightfall Festival (Stewart Park, Middlesbrough), *New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts (2023), and Southwark Park Galleries (2023)

Revontulet is a cinematic work by Howard Hannah inspired by Finnish folklore about the mythical firefox whose racing through the night ignites the northern lights. In the film, trails of imagined light mimic the luminous Aurora Borealis, with neon hues that hover, diffuse, and surprise the eye. Movement, colour and atmospheric effects evoke a dreamlike night sky, inviting viewers into a sensory encounter with imagined phenomena.

The work was commissioned for Nightfall 22 by **Stellar Projects*, where it featured as part of a large-scale light and sound programme, and has since been presented in gallery and institutional contexts.

Howard Hannah is an artist collective formed in 2018 by visual artist Hannah Campion and photographer Kev Howard. Evolving from a collaborative studio practice begun in 2009, their work spans film, light and installation, often developed for site-responsive and public events internationally.
