Rainbow Room × Magnatation in Colour

Film & Installation, 2018
Re-presented 2023 as an installation / film for What Does Life After Death Look Like at Moving Gallery, curated by Amy South

Rainbow Room × Magnatation in Colour is a collaborative film and installation by Howard Hannah, combining moving image, projection, sound, and sculptural elements. The work brings together Hannah Campion’s colour-led, ribbon-like painted forms with Kev Howard’s film Magnatation in Colour, creating an immersive, spatial encounter.

The film is projected across sweeping arcs of painted paper, guiding movement through the space and activating the surrounding artworks. Sound plays a central role in the work, with Howard’s throat singing resonating through the installation, animating the environment and heightening sensory perception.

Originally developed as a film work in 2018, the project has evolved through installation and live performance contexts, including Rainbow × Magnatation II at the Athenaeum, incorporating projection, installation, painting, sculpture, and live vocal performance.

Howard Hannah is an artist collective formed in 2018 by visual artist Hannah Campion and photographer Kev Howard. Emerging from a long-standing studio collaboration that began in 2009, their practice spans film, light, and installation, often developed for site-responsive and public contexts.
