Navigator North Installation — CLUSTER 2022

Middlesbrough Art Weekender, 2022

In 2022 I presented an installation as part of CLUSTER, the studio exhibition organised by Navigator North, hosted in Hillstreet Shopping Centre during Middlesbrough Art Weekender.

The temporary space offered a different kind of context — a public, transitional environment where the work encountered audiences beyond the usual gallery setting. Installed within the architecture of the shopping centre, the piece responded to movement, circulation, and light within the site.

CLUSTER brought together studio holders working across disciplines, creating a shared environment of experimentation and conversation. The exhibition drew hundreds of visitors across the weekend, many encountering the work unexpectedly as part of their everyday route through the building.

Presenting the installation within this setting extended my interest in how colour and form shift in relation to context — how the work behaves differently when placed within active, public space rather than a contained white cube.
